Description
I photographed this bayou late one afternoon in October at a salt marsh in Ozello along Florida's Gold Coast. This is a coastal salt marsh biome populated with salt-tolerant plants. Predominant marsh grass is the Black Needle Rush, Juncus roemerianus. A few young Red Mangrove trees, Rhizophora mangle, have sprouted along the banks. Predominant trees on an island hammock in the background are Cabbage Palm, Sabal palmetto; Southern Red Cedar, Juniperus virginia; and Slash Pine, Pinus elliottii. This coastal area of Florida has a thin layer of soil covering limestone bedrock.
