Description
This is a classic Florida landscape of tidal marshes and red cedar hammocks, with bright blue skies and fluffy cumulus clouds above and dark blue water below. The hammocks are a mix of native trees, including Southern Red Cedar (Juniperus silicicola) and Cabbage Palm (Sabal palmetto). Similar forests of red cedar were once common along the northern Florida gulf coast before they were cut for the pencil industry. The Cabbage Palm is the State Tree of Florida. The grasses that dominate Florida tidal marshes include the black needle rush (Juncus roemerianus), saltmeadow cord grass (Spartina patens), and smooth cord grass (Spartina alterniflora).
